Bourne Scallop Festival opens Sept. 7

BOURNE -- The Bourne Scallop Festival parade and opening ceremonies will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 7, at the intersection of Perry Avenue and Main Street, Buzzards Bay.
The parade marks the beginning of the three-day celebration that draws more than 50,000 visitors every year.
The parade will include representatives from Massachusetts Maritime Academy, the Air Force, the Brian Boru Bagpipe Band, local school representatives, antique cars and mounted patrols.
The big tent opens at 7 p.m. for a pre-event tasting of prepared scallops. Tickes are $6 per person. Children's rides and games will be available.
Opening ceremonies will include vocalist Daniel M. Clark, known as "Trooper Dan" of the Massachusetts State Police. He has performed at numerous functions, including State of the State addresses, the opening of the Boston Marathon, and Patriots, Red Sox and Revolution games.

The festival takes place along side the Cape Cod Canal in Buzzards Bay Park.
The hours are 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.
Admission is $2 per person; children under 12 get in free. Combination tickets for scallop and chicken dinners are $11, including admission and a medium soft drink. Dinners are served until 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and until 6 p.m. Sunday.
The state lottery will hold a live Sept. 8; the daily number will be drawn at 7:58 p.m. and Mass Cash at 11:20. Both drawings will be broadcast on WBZ-TV, Channel 4.
The 31-year-old festival involves hundreds of volunteers and nonprofit organizations.
The entertainment will include music, games, rides and more than 70 vendors.
