MARION -- The Planning Board and the growth oversight committee will begin a series of public hearings on Sept. 9 to discuss the pending growth management plan.
The series of meetings with the community is expected to shape bylaw changes to be proposed at next spring's town meeting.
"When we bring this to Town Meeting, we want it to reflect what the townspeople see as the future of Marion," said T.J. Walker, Planning Board member.
The Planning Board and the Growth Management Oversight Committee discussed the public meetings during last night's Selectmen's meeting.
The first meeting will be with the Marion business community and will be followed by other special interest groups as well as the community at large, said Mr. Walker.
After the public meetings, the town hopes to have a solid list of proposed changes by mid-November.
"From then on we will try to gather support for the changes for the town meeting," said Mr. Walker.
General concerns being addressed included trying to control growth in environmental sensitive areas and areas predicted to be growth hot spots.
In other Selectmen news:
The company treats sludge at its site near the town dump. The sludge is mostly from septic systems from Marion residents and surrounding towns.
Robert Zora, public works superintendent, told the board that any changes would create too much confusion and cost for the town.
Some residents have requested that the town add separate water meters to measure the amount of water they use for irrigation, believing they should not have to pay sewage fees for water that went toward irrigation.
The town does allow residents to pay for an additional service line for irrigation, but the $600 installation cost must be pick up by the resident.
In another matter, Mr. Zora said work on Point Road is expected to be completed by mid-September. He said the base of the road will be laid down by next week.
