Revs drop 3-1 decisionBy The Associated Press
Rookie Rodrigo Faria scored twice in a three-goal first half that carried the New York-New Jersey MetroStars to a 3-1 victory over the New England Revolution on Friday night.
Adolfo Valencia also scored for the MetroStars, while Andy Williams scored for New England, which lost its fourth straight game at Giants Stadium.
Faria headed in a corner kick by Daniel Hernandez in the fifth minute to give New York-New Jersey (13-10-3) the lead. All the goals by the MetroStars, who had already clinched a berth in MLS playoffs, came on headers.
Williams tied the game for the Revolution (7-14-6) in the 14th minute, turning with the ball at the top of the box and beating goalkeeper Tim Howard with a shot just inside the post.
Faria got the game-winner in the 27th minute. Petter Villegas centered a pass from the right wing and Faria went up high to score his team-high eighth goal.
Clint Mathis scored seven goals in 10 games for the MetroStars before sustaining a season-ending knee injury.
New York-New Jersey, which had been shutout in its last two home games, got some breathing room in the closing seconds of the half on a play that began with another corner kick.
Defender Steve Jolley took Hernandez's corner kick and headed it back across the box to Valencia, who headed it past goalkeeper Jose Fernandez for his fifth goal. Jolley also assisted on Faria's second goal.
