Bob Friend took advantage of an easy day for scoring and an 18th-hole mistake by Billy Andrade, shooting a 4-under-par 68 yesterday to take a two-stroke lead in the Bell Canadian Open. Friend birdied three of the last five holes to finish at 12-under 204 through three rounds. Still, he needed some help from Andrade to regain the lead. Andrade hit his drive into a bunker on the 508-yard closing hole and had to play a low punch under a tree. He had 158 yards to the hole, but caught his 9-iron thin and grimaced as it caromed off the rocks and into the water. "It was the wrong shot at the wrong time," said Andrade, who had to settle for a 3-under 69 for 206. ... Switzerland's Paolo Quiric shot a 2-under-par 70 on a cold, wet day to take a one-stroke lead over six players after three rounds of the British Masters in Coventry, England. Quiric closed with birdies on the 16th and 17th for a 5-under total of 211. ... Patty Sheehan, a three-time winner of the Safeco Classic, shot a 5-under-par 67 yesterday and took a one-stroke lead over Annika Sorenstam heading into today's final round in Kent, Wash.
