    FALL RIVER -- Mary M. Silva, 94, of Wilbur Avenue, formerly of County Street, Somerset, died Friday, Sept. 10, 1999, at Clifton Rehabilitation and Nursing Care Center. She was the widow of Silvino Silva.
    Born in Arrifes, Ponta Delgada, Azores, daughter of the late Antone and Diamantina (Masse) Morgado, she came to the United States in 1920 and lived in Somerset for 42 years.
    Mrs. Silva was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church in Somerset.
    Survivors include two daughters, Lola Fallone of Fall River and Diamantina Williams of Tampa, Fla.; two sons, Edmund F. Silva of Somerset and Gerald Silva of Tampa; three sisters, Angelina Silva of Fall River and Elvira Cordeiro and Amelia Correa, both of Somerset; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
    She was also the sister of the late Isabel Rego, Tobias Morgado and Humberto Morgado.
    Her funeral will be at 8 a.m. Monday from the Rose E. Sullivan and Waring Funeral Home, 866 County St., Somerset, with a funeral Mass at 9 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church, 306 South St., Somerset. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Somerset.

    DARTMOUTH -- Richard De Costa, 64, of North Dartmouth died Friday, Sept. 10, 1999, at St. Luke's Hospital, where he been taken after being stricken while at work. He was the husband of Lorraine (Machado) De Costa.
    Born in New Bedford, son of Mary "Nana" (Lombard) De Costa and the late Antone De Costa, Mr. De Costa had lived in that city prior to moving to North Dartmouth 25 years ago. He was a communicant of St. Julie Billiart Church in North Dartmouth.
    Mr. De Costa was self-employed in the trucking industry, owning the N.W.D. Inc. trucking company which was established in 1979. He was previously the owner of the former Model Dairy from 1963 to 1979.
    Family and friends remember Mr. De Costa as a man who loved to work and enjoyed anything to do with trucks. He was known by many as a humanitarian who loved to help underprivileged people and animals of any kind, and as a man who enjoyed laughter and having fun. As an animal lover, he was especially fond of his dog, Brutus.
    Mr. and Mrs. De Costa had been married for 43 years.
    Survivors, in addition to his widow and his mother, include two sons, David S. De Costa of South Dartmouth and Eric R. De Costa of Fairhaven; two daughters, Sharon De Costa of New Bedford and Joanne Farias of North Dartmouth; four brothers, David A. De Costa of North Dartmouth, Raymond De Costa of East Freetown, Robert J. De Costa of New Bedford and Dennis F. De Costa of Minnesota; one sister, Maureen T. De Costa of Wareham; 11 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
    Mr. De Costa also was the father of the late Paul T. De Costa.
    A funeral Mass for Mr. De Costa will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 13, at St. Julie Billiart Church, Slocum Road, North Dartmouth. Interment will be in Rural Cemetery in New Bedford.
    Arrangements are by the Aubertine-Lopes Funeral Home, 129 Allen St., New Bedford.

    Caesar M. Ramos Jr.

    NEW BEDFORD -- Caesar M. Ramos Jr., 57, died Thursday, Sept. 9, 1999, at Hallmark Nursing & Rehabilitation Center after a brief illness. He was the son of Agnes (Silvia) Ramos and Caesar M. Ramos, both of New Bedford.
    A lifelong New Bedford resident, he was a communicant of Our Lady of Assumption Church.
    Mr. Ramos owned and operated C&C Appliance Service on Wing Street for many years.
    He served in the Air Force and was an avid card player.
    Survivors include his parents; two brothers, Joseph Ramos of North Lauderdale, Fla., and George Ramos of New Bedford; three sisters, Susan A. Ramos, Robin Ramos and Carolina Santos, all of New Bedford; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
    His funeral Mass will be at 9 a.m. Monday in Our lady of Assumption Church; burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery.
    Arrangements are by the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St.

    Edward J. Camara


    TIVERTON -- Edward J. Camara, 76, of Fish Road, died unexpectedly at home Thursday, Sept. 9, 1999. He was the husband of Frances L. (Medeiros) Camara.
    Born in Fall River, Mass., son of the late Manuel and Annie (Tavares) Cambra, he lived in Tiverton most of his life.
    He was a communicant of Holy Ghost Church, Tiverton.
    He was a foreman for Duro Finishing/Stedro of Fall River for many years, formerly River Edge Printers, until he retired in 1998.
    Mr. Camara was a member of the Ponta Delgada Club, the Bayview Holy Ghost Club, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Woodrow L. Silvia Post 5392, the Sportsmen's Club and the Knights of Columbus, Father J. Boehr Council, all of Tiverton, and the American Legion Post 121 in Berkley.
    He was an Army veteran of World War II.
    Survivors include his widow; a daughter, Donna Souza of Tiverton; three sons, Edward Camara of Baxter, Minn., Gregory Camara of North Attleboro and Donald P. Camara of Tiverton; two sisters, Almorinda Viveiros of Tiverton and Evelyn Fernandes of Fall River; a brother, Joseph Cambra of Tiverton; seven grandchildren; a great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
    He was the brother of the late Manual Cambra.
    His funeral will be at 8 a.m. Monday from the Oliveira Funeral Home, 2064 S. Main St., Fall River, with a Mass at 9 a.m. in Holy Ghost Church, Judson Street; burial will be in Pocasset Hill Cemetery, Main Road.

    Pamelajean Mackay


    ACUSHNET -- Pamelajean (Cook) Mackay, 48, died unexpectedly at home Wednesday, Sept. 8, 1999. She was the daughter of Rita (Dumas) Daigle and Louis Daigle.
    Born in San Diego, she lived most of her life in Acushnet.
    She was a parishioner of St. Mary's Church, Fairhaven.
    She was a graduate of Bristol Community College.
    Mrs. Mackay enjoyed gardening and landscaping. She also was an accomplished artist and author of published poems.
    Survivors include her parents; two sisters, Lindalee T. Livesey of Killdevel Hills, N.C., and Maureen Dean of Manteo, N.C.; two brothers, Leonard A. Daigle of Acushnet and Louis Daigle Jr. of Maine; and many nieces and nephews.
    Her funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the Fairhaven Funeral Home, 117 Main St., Fairhaven.

    Ruth Santos, 90


    NEW BEDFORD -- Ruth (Simmons) Santos, 90, died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 1999, at Bedford Village Nursing Home following a long illness. She was the widow of Alfred Santos.
    Born in New Bedford, daughter of the late Manuel and Palmira (Silva) Simmons, she lived most of her life in the city.
    Mrs. Santos was a cloth inspector at the former Gosnold Mill until she retired.
    Her passion was playing the piano, and in earlier years she was known to entertain at various nursing homes.
    Survivors include two granddaughters, Debra A. Fournier of New Bedford and Gail R. Sylvia of Lakeville; a sister, Elvira "Barby" Mularczyk of New Bedford; two great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
    She was the mother of the late Caroline Sylvia and sister of the late Richard Simmons and Louise "Gerry" Bowman.
    A private funeral service was under the direction of the Aubertine-Lopes Funeral Home, 129 Allen St.

    William H. Midgley, 90


    NEW BEDFORD -- William H. Midgley, 90, died Friday, Sept. 10, 1999, at St. Luke's Hospital.
    A lifelong resident of New Bedford, he was the son of the late William H. and Ella (Hayward) Midgley.
    A World War II Army veteran, Mr. Midgley was a graduate of New Bedford High School, class of 1927, and a graduate of Brown University in Providence, class of 1931.
    He was a retired teacher from the New Bedford Department of Public Schools and had taught at Roosevelt Junior High School.
    Survivors include a cousin, Irving H. Cooper of New Jersey.
    Private cremation arrangements are by the Donaghy Funeral Home, 465 County St.

    Evelyn DeTerra


    WAREHAM -- Evelyn C. (Caldwell) DeTerra, 82, died Thursday, Sept. 9, 1999, at Forestview Nursing Home after a long illness. She was the daughter of the late Edward M. and Marion E. (Simonds) Caldwell.
    Born in Marion, she graduated from Wareham High School, class of 1934. She was a longtime resident of Marion until moving to Wareham in 1975.
    She was an executive secretary at Revere Copper & Brass in New Bedford until she retired in 1975.
    Survivors include two sisters, Eleanor Campbell of Wareham and Charlotte Riley of Hartford, Conn.; and several nieces and nephews.
    Following cremation, private graveside services will be held in Center Cemetery. Arrangements are by the Stott, Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Highway, Route 28..

    Dorothy M. Gallant


    NEW BEDFORD -- Dorothy Marie Gallant, 80, died Friday morning, Sept. 10, 1999, at St. Luke's Hospital.
    A lifelong New Bedford resident, she was the daughter of the late L. George and Elise (Boudreau) Gallant.
    She was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church in New Bedford many years ago.
    She was an inspector at the former Howland Linen Co. in New Bedford and also was a self-employed nanny until she retired in 1977.
    Survivors include a sister, Alice Gallant of New Bedford.
    She was the sister of the late Bertha A. and E. Rita Gallant.
    Her funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Donaghy Funeral Home, 465 County St.; burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery No. 2.

    Dorothy L. Pacheco


    NEW BEDFORD -- Dorothy L. (Sager) Pacheco, 46, died at home, Friday, Sept. 10, 1999, after a long illness. She was the wife of Humberto M. Pacheco.
    Born in New Bedford, daughter of the late Albert and Florence (Olson) Sager, she lived in the New Bedford community all her life.
    A member of Grace Episcopal Church, she was formerly employed at Colonial Textile Co.
    She and her husband were happily married for 28 years.
    Survivors include her widower; a son, Joshua Pacheco of New Bedford; and two brothers, Roy Sager and Ray Sager, both of New Bedford.
    Her funeral and burial are private. Arrangements are by the Wilson Chapel, 479 County St.

    August L. Travers


    NEW BEDFORD -- August L. Travers, 78, of Acushnet, died Thursday, Sept. 9, 1999, at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of Evelyn (Rego) Travers and son of the late Lawrence and Estafania (Medeiros) Travers.
    A lifelong Acushnet resident, he was a communicant of St. Francis Xavier Church.
    Mr. Travers was a cutter at Cape Cod Textile Manufacturing until he retired.
    An Army veteran of World War II, he participated in the European-African-Middle Eastern campaign, receiving a medal with five battle stars. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Tuttle Post 7239.
    Survivors include his widow; two sons, Lawrence J. Travers and Dennis J. Travers, both of Acushnet; a sister, Alice Barboza of Acushnet; and several nieces and nephews.
    He was the brother of the late Mary Gracia, Eva Duarte, Antone Travers and Manuel Travers.
    His funeral Mass will be at 9 a.m. Monday at St. Francis Xavier Church. Arrangements are by the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd.

    Nuno A. Pimental


    NEW BEDFORD -- Nuno A. Pimental, 50, died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 1999, at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness. He was the son of John T. and Rosinha (Medeiros) Pimental.
    Born in Fazenda Nordeste, Sao Miguel, Azores, he lived most of his life in the New Bedford area.
    He was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church.
    Mr. Pimental was employed by Stern & Leach as a supervisor until he retired.
    He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War and attained the rank of specialist, fourth grade. He was awarded the President's National Medal of Patriotism given by the Police Hall of Fame.
    He was an avid soccer player, playing for the South End Youth Athletic Association, winning the New England National Junior Championship. Later, he played for New Bedford High School, where they won the state championship. He also played for the St. Michael Club, winning the league championship.
    He was a member of the Club Recordacoes, playing on their soccer team. He also played collegiate soccer for the former SMU, now UMass Dartmouth, winning the conference championship. He was an all-star for the Colonial Intercollege Conference.
    Survivors include his parents; a daughter, Mandie Marie Pimental of New Bedford; two brothers, John Pimental and Paul Pimental, both of New Bedford; a granddaughter, Alana Roderiquez of New Bedford; two aunts; and a nephew.
    Private funeral arrangements were by the Aubertine-Lopes Funeral Home, 129 Allen St.

    Luis J. Correia


    NEW BEDFORD -- Luis J. Correia, 88, of Caswell Street, New Bedford, died at his home Friday, Sept. 10, 1999, after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Maria B. (Barboza) Correia.
    Born in Sao Miguel, Azores, son of the late Francisco Soares-Macido and Maria Georgina (DePont) Soares-Macido, Mr. Correia spent his youth in Sao Miguel and had made his home in New Bedford since 1955. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
    Mr. Correia had been employed by several manufacturing plants in this city, including Wamsutta Mills, John I. Paulding Inc. and the Chamberlain Manufacturing Corp. He later worked for several years as a landscaper for a private company in New Bedford before retiring in 1973.
    Survivors include four sons, Luis M. Correia of Dartmouth, Manuel M.B. Correia of North Dartmouth, Carlos Correia of Fairhaven and Antonio Correia of Plymouth; two daughters, Eduarda Correia of New Bedford and Etelvina "Tellie" DeFarias of New Bedford; two brothers, Angelenos Soares-Macido of Sao Miguel and Manuel Soares-Macido of Canada; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; plus several nieces and nephews.
    Mr. Correia also was the brother of the late Francisco Soares-Macido, Jacinto Soares-Macido, Etelvina Soares-Rebelo and Maria Eduardo Soares-Macido.
    A funeral service for Mr. Correia will be held at 8 a.m. Monday, Sept. 13, from the Brooklawn Funeral Home, 15 Irvington St., New Bedford, followed by a funeral Mass at 9 at Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church, 136 Earle St., New Bedford. Interment will be at St. John's Cemetery.
    Arrangements are by the Brooklawn Funeral Home.
