    FALL RIVER -- Madeline (Decesaro) Dargenio, 92, of Wilbur Avenue, Somerset, formerly of Stafford Street, Swansea, died at Charlton Memorial Hospital, Friday, Oct. 2, 1998. She was the widow of William Dargenio.
    Born in Campo Basso, Italy, a daughter of the late Vincent and Concetta (Alfonso) Decesaro, she lived in Swansea for 25 years and in Long Island, N.Y., for 42 years before moving to Somerset in 1997.
    Mrs. Dargenio was a homemaker and a senior member of Calvary Temple in Fall River. She was also active in the prayer and visitation ministry of the church.
    Survivors include a sister, Eva Buote of Swansea, and several nieces and nephews.
    She was the sister of the late Angelina Gonsalves, Antoinette Dargenio, Michael Decesaro, David Decesaro, Joseph Decesaro, Louis Decesaro and William Decesaro.
    Arrangements are by the "Birchcrest" Home of Waring-Sullivan & Ashton-Coughlin-Driscoll, 189 Gardners Neck Road, Swansea.

    Evelyn M. Boyd


    FALL RIVER -- Evelyn M. (Couto) Boyd, 72, of Wood Avenue, Tiverton, R.I., died at St. Anne Hospital, Thursday, Oct. 1, 1998. She was the widow of Jimmie D. Boyd Jr. and daughter of the late Manuel and Marion (Ouellette) Couto.
    Born in Fall River, Mrs. Boyd attended Our Lady of Health Church in her early years. She later moved to Tiverton, where she lived for 38 years, and was a communicant of St. Madeleine Church.
    She worked as a sewing machine operator in several firms in Fall River for about 10 years, but she was a homemaker for most of her life.
    Survivors include a son, Ronald V. Boyd of Little Compton, R.I.; a daughter, Cheryl L. Dubois of Fall River; three sisters, Hilda Viveiros and Lorraine Belanger, both of Fall River, and Adelaide Jean of Tiverton; a brother, William Couto of Little Compton; four grandchildren; a great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
    A funeral Mass will be at 9 a.m. Monday in St. Madeleine Church.
    Arrangements are by the Jeffrey E. Sullivan Funeral Home, 550 Locust St.

    Alexandrina Braz


    FAIRHAVEN -- Private services were held for Alexandrina "Alice" (Arruda) Braz, 88, who died at Alden Court Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Tuesday, Sept. 29, 1998. She was the widow of Frank Braz and daughter of the late Manuel and Deolinda (Jordan) Arruda.
    Mrs. Braz was born in New Bedford and lived in the city most of her life before entering the nursing home in 1991.
    She was a weaver at Berkshire Hathaway Mill for 50 years, retiring in 1975.
    Survivors include a brother, Manuel Arruda of New Bedford; two sisters, Belmira Hartford of Port Charlotte, Fla., and Wilhelmina Gauthier of Mattapoisett; and several nieces and nephews.
    She was the sister of the late Mary Campos, Antone Arruda, Deolinda Motta and Irene Silvia.
    Arrangements were by the Fairhaven Funeral Home, 117 Main St.

    Peter Economos


    NEW BEDFORD -- Peter Economos, 80, died at home, Friday, Oct. 2, 1998, after a brief illness. He was the husband of Mary (Derossi) Economos and son of the late George and Mary (Dube) Economos.
    Mr. Economos was a lifelong New Bedford resident and a communicant of Holy Name Church.
    He was self-employed as a general contractor before becoming employed by the New Bedford public school system for 21 years, retiring as supervisor of maintenance in 1981.
    A Navy veteran of World War II, he was a member of the Sea Bees, served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater, and participated in the battles of Okinawa and the Aleutian islands.
    Mr. Economos played semi-pro football with the Whalers.
    Survivors include his widow; a son, David Economos of Somerset; two daughters, Dale A. Wellington of Rochester and Donna L. Cavanaugh of New Bedford; three brothers, John Economos of Lakeville and Alex Economos and Charles Economos, both of New Bedford; a sister, Alice Reedy of New Bedford; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
    He was the brother of the late James D. Economos.
    A funeral Mass will be at 9 a.m. Monday in Holy Name Church.
    Arrangements are by the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St.

    Willard Mahar


    MELBOURNE, Fla. -- Willard "Bill" Mahar, 80, formerly of New Bedford, Mass., died at Arbors Nursing Home, Thursday, Oct. 1, 1998, after a brief illness. He was the husband of Virginia Mahar and widower of Jeannette (Gosselin) Mahar.
    Born in Maine, Mr. Mahar lived in New Bedford most of his life before moving to Florida 20 years ago.
    He was a World War II Army veteran, retiring after 20 years of service. He was a disabled American veteran.
    He was employed by Zales and Warren Jewelers of New Bedford until he retired in 1977.
    Survivors include his widow; two daughters, Beth Cespedes of California and Jane Mahar of Washington; four sons, Glenn Mahar of New Bedford, Wayne Mahar of Washington, Earl Mahar of Texas and Dale Mahar; a stepdaughter, Linda Haddocks of Florida; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
    Arrangements are by the Florida Memorial Funeral Home, 5950 S. U.S. Highway 1, Rockledge, 32955.

    Violet M. Howe


    WICHITA, Kan. -- Violet M. (Bouchard) Howe, 83, formerly of New Bedford, Mass., died Thursday, Oct. 1, 1998. She was the daughter of the late Alfred Bouchard and the late Laura Sicard.
    Born in Dartmouth, Mass., Mrs. Howe was raised in New Bedford.
    She was employed as an assembly worker at Miro-flex in Wichita until she retired.
    Survivors include a son, Duanne Howe of Wichita; two daughters, Sandra Gleeson of Wichita and Doreen DePontier of Udall, Kan.; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
    Arrangements are by the Resthaven Mortuary and Cemetery, 11800 W. Highway 54, Wichita, 67209.

    Stanley O. Jackson


    PLYMOUTH -- Stanley Ogden Jackson, 87, of Pilgrim Manor Nursing Home, formerly of New Bedford, died at the home Thursday, Oct. 1, 1998. He would have been 88 on October 6.
    The son of the late John and Emily (Ogden) Jackson, Mr. Jackson was born in New Bedford, where he attended St. Martin Episcopal Church. He had lived at Pilgrim Manor since 1983.
    Survivors include his cousins, Patricia W. Nottage, Percy Rawcliffe, Lee W. Marland and John Marland.
    He was the nephew of the late Alice Rawcliffe, Lily Rumney, Lena Davenport, Emily Wilbor and Mildred Marland.
    A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Rural Cemetery, New Bedford.
    Arrangements are by the Donaghy Funeral Home, 465 County St., New Bedford.

    Marion J. Mazzuchelli


    FALL RIVER -- Marion J. (Wickham) Mazzuchelli, 77, of Sunset Hill, formerly of County Street, died at St. Anne Hospital, Thursday, Oct. 1, 1998, after a brief illness. She was the daughter of the late Shadrack W. and Bragetta (Eisenmenger) Wickham.
    Born in Lowell, she lived in Fall River most of her life, where she was a homemaker and member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church.
    She enjoyed listening to country western music.
    Survivors include a daughter, Pauline M. Mazzuchelli of Fall River; four sons, Michael J. Mazzuchelli of Swansea, Garre S. Mazzuchelli and Dennis S. Mazzuchelli, both of Fall River, and Don J. Mazzuchelli of Foxboro; four sisters, Dorothy Borges of New Bedford, Kathleen Wallace of Newport, R.I., Beverly White of Millington, Tenn., and Nancy Cabral of Dighton; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
    She was the mother of the late Paul Mazzuchelli and sister of the late Jacquelyn Pelland and Patsy Harwell.
    Funeral services and burial are private.
    Arrangements are by the "Cherry Place" Home of Waring-Sullivan & Ashton-Coughlin-Driscoll, 178 Winter St.

    Anna Rhodes, 98


    MARION -- Anna (Olivier) Rhodes, 98, died at Sippican Health Care Center, Friday, Oct. 2, 1998, after a long illness.
    A homemaker, Mrs. Rhodes was born in New Bedford and lived in Rochester most of her life.
    She was a member of the Rochester, Wareham and Marion senior citizens councils.
    Survivors include a daughter, Shirley Hartley of Rochester; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
    A graveside service will be at 9 a.m. Monday at Evergreen Cemetery, Marion.
    Arrangements are by the Stott, Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Highway (Route 28), Wareham.

    Arthur F. Ringuette


    NEW BEDFORD -- Arthur F. Ringuette, 73, of Washington, D.C., formerly of New Bedford, died unexpectedly at St. Luke's Hospital, Friday, Oct. 2, 1998. He was the husband of Jean S. (Stewart) Ringuette and son of the late Napoleon and Victoria (Paquette) Ringuette.
    Born in Three Rivers, Canada, Mr. Ringuette was raised in New Bedford. He lived in Manchester, N.H., and in Hartford, Conn., for several years until he moved to Washington, D.C., 15 years ago.
    He was a 25-year Army veteran who served during World War II in the European Theater of Operations and then in the Korean Conflict, retiring in 1966 as a sergeant first class.
    He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed traveling and cooking.
    Survivors include his widow; two brothers, Albert Ringuette of Hartford and Alfred Ringuette of Phoenix; a sister, Cecile Ringuette of New Bedford; and several nieces and nephews.
    Private arrangements are by the Brooklawn Funeral Home, 15 Irvington Court.

    Anthony R. Ruggiero


    TAUNTON -- Anthony R. Ruggiero, 84, of Summer Street, formerly of Nicholas W. Mitchell Heights, Fall River, died at Marian Manor, Friday, Oct. 2, 1998. He was the husband of Dorothy R. (Whitty) Ruggiero, to whom he was married 59 years, and son of the late Alphonse and Francesca (Giglio) Ruggiero.
    Mr. Ruggiero was born in Bristol, R.I., and lived in Fall River for 55 years and in Taunton for four years.
    He was a graduate of Rhode Island College of Pharmacy and was a registered pharmacist for 40 years. He was employed by the former Hickey's Drug Store in Fall River and St. Laurent's Drug Store in North Tiverton, R.I. He retired in 1976 from Corrigan the Apothecary in Fall River.
    He was a star athlete in football and basketball and was inducted into the Bristol High School Hall of Fame.
    He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus and the Catholic Pharmacist's Guild. He was a former Eucharistic minister and member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society of St. Patrick's Church, Fall River.
    Survivors include his widow; a son, Anthony M. Ruggiero of Swansea; two daughters, Dorothy R. Ruggiero of Norwood and Margaret M. Vieira of Fall River; a sister, Teresa R. Bisbano of Bristol; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
    He was the father of the late Francesca A. Ruggiero and John W. Ruggiero, a Fall River police officer. He was also the brother of the late Rose M. Mascolo, Emily C. Bernardo, Dora L. Iannucillo, Mary R. Contieri, Alphonse W. Ruggiero and Frank A. Ruggiero.
    A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Monday in St. Patrick's Church.
    Arrangements are by the Auclair Funeral Home, 690 S. Main St., Fall River.

    Arlene Silva


    WESTPORT -- Arlene (Hansen) Silva, 70, of Old County Road, died unexpectedly at home Friday, Oct. 2, 1998. She was the widow of Frank Silva and daughter of the late George and Harriet (Reed) Hansen.
    Born in New Bedford, Mrs. Silva had lived in Westport since 1954.
    She was formerly employed by the Westport school system as a custodian until she retired in 1988.
    Survivors include two brothers, George Hansen Sr., of Fall River and Warren Hansen of New Bedford; two sisters, Helen Milstead of Houston, and Jane Quint of Westport.
    At the request of the family there will be no services.
    Arrangements are by the Potter Funeral Home, 81 Reed Road.

    Jeffrey A. Smith


    FALL RIVER -- Jeffrey A. Smith, 39, of Linden Street, died unexpectedly at home, Friday, Oct. 2, 1998. He was the longtime companion of Annette Tillson of Fall River and son of the late Clinton and Janice M. (Daudelin) Smith.
    Mr. Smith was a lifelong Fall River resident and member of the First Congregational Church.
    He was a general maintenance worker at New England Power, Brayton Point Station, Somerset.
    Survivors include his companion; a daughter, Stephanie L. Tillson of Fall River; a son, Paul M. Tillson of Fall River; four sisters, Joyce E. Smith of Portsmouth, R.I., Carol A. Dupras of Fall River, Betsy Smith-Cabral and Sandra J. Medeiros, both of Somerset; a brother, Clint Smith of Fall River; a goddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
    His funeral is at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First Congregational Church.
    Arrangements are by the Hathaway Home for Funerals, 1813 Robeson St.

    Edward J. Kroleski, 91


    DEDHAM -- Edward J. Kroleski, 91, of West Roxbury, died Thursday, Oct. 1, 1998. He was the husband of Alma (Frank) Kroleski, formerly of Fall River.
    He died at Eastwood Care Centre.
    Born in Boston, Mr. Kroleski lived in South Boston before moving to West Roxbury 40 years ago.
    For 30 years, Mr. Kroleski was employed by the city of Boston as an inspector until he retired in 1977.
    An Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of the Kosciuszko Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2091 in Dorchester.
    Survivors include his widow; a daughter, Patricia A. Esposito of Adamsville, Md.; two sons, Thomas E. Kroleski of Danville, Calif., and Matthew P. Kroleski of Roslindale; seven grandchildren; and several nieces.
    He was the brother of the late Walter Kroleski.
    His funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Theresa's Church in West Roxbury.
    Arrangements are by the Keefe Keohane Funeral Home, 8 Spring St., West Roxbury.

    Claudia Young-Pineau, 98

    NEW BEDFORD -- Claudia (Bourque) Young-Pineau, 98, died at Mariner Health of Southeastern Massachusetts, Friday, Oct. 2, 1998, after a brief illness. She was the widow of Edward E. Young and Amede W. Pineau and daughter of the late Eric and Leona (LeBlanc) Bourque.
    Born in Canada, she lived most of her life in New Bedford and was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church.
    She was employed as a presser at States Nitewear until she retired.
    Survivors include two sons, John E. Young and Roland Young, both of New Bedford; a brother, Leo Bourque of East Hartford, Conn.; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
    She was the mother of the late Bernice Prunier, stepmother of the late Violette Bessette, and sister of the late Emile Bourque, Florence Simard and Bertha Sadowski.
    A funeral Mass will be at 9 a.m. Monday in St. Anthony's Church.
    Arrangements are by the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd.

    Lilia P. Andrade


    NEW BEDFORD -- Lilia "Lily" P. (Perry) Andrade, 81, died at St. Luke's Hospital, Wednesday, Sept. 30, 1998. She was the widow of Ernest Andrade and daughter of the late Augustine J. and Angelina (Ferreira) Perry.
    Born in New Bedford, she lived in the New Bedford area all her life.
    Mrs. Andrade attended Dartmouth High School and was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Dartmouth.
    She was a homemaker.
    Survivors include a daughter, Katherine Veiga of Chepachet, R.I.; six brothers, Frank F. Perry of Spartenburg, S.C., and Domingo Perry, Edward F. Perry, Alfred F. Perry, Richard F. Perry and Robert F. Perry, all of Dartmouth; a sister, Mary F. Perry of Dartmouth; numerous nieces and nephews; and grandnieces and grandnephews.
    A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Mary's Church, Dartmouth Street, South Dartmouth.
    Arrangements are by the Dartmouth Funeral Home, 230 Russells Mills Road, Dartmouth.

    FAIRHAVEN -- Claire (Poisson) Shea-Morris, 64, of Fairhaven, formerly of Mattapoisett, died unexpectedly at home, Wednesday, Sept. 30, 1998. She was the widow of Fred Morris and the former wife of Henry Shea of Atlanta.
    Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Avila and Ida (Caron) Poisson, she lived in Mattapoisett for several years before moving to Fairhaven four years ago.
    Mrs. Shea-Morris was employed as a secretary to the editor of The Standard-Times for 10 years until she retired in 1990.
    She was a graduate of Holy Family High School and received her associate's degree in arts from the former Garland Junior College.
    Survivors include two daughters, Alexandra E. "Alix" Shea of Atlanta and Carey Shea of Longmont, Colo.; a son, Christopher C. Shea of Lewisville, Texas; and a grandson.
    A funeral Mass will be at 9 a.m. Monday in St. Joseph's Church, Spring Street.
    Arrangements are by the Fairlawn Mortuary of Sullivan-Waring, 180 Washington St.
