Mary J. Carew
FAIRHAVEN -- Mary J. Carew, 77, of Fishermans Road, Fairhaven, formerly of Providence, died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 1999, at Our Lady's Haven Nursing Home.
Born in Providence, a daughter of the late John and Mary (O'Riley) Carew, she lived in Providence most of her life.
She was employed by Warren Oil Co., Providence, for many years.
Survivors include a sister, Kathleen Carew of Providence, and several nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Ann Carroll and Jon Carew.
Private arrangements are by the Auclair Funeral Home, 690 S. Main St., Fall River.
Dorvalino Botelho
FALL RIVER -- Dorvalino Botelho, 73, of New Bedford, died Friday, Oct. 1, 1999, after a long illness. He was the widower of Maria Armanda (Sousa) Botelho.
He died at Rose Hawthorne-Lathrop Home.
Born in Sao Miguel, Azores, Portugal, he was the son of the late Manuel Botelho and Maria dos Anjos.
He lived in the Fall River area for nine years and was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church.
While living in Sao Miguel, Mr. Botelho was a self-employed carpenter.
Survivors include a daughter, Grace Branco of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada; five sons, Carlos Botelho and Jorge Botelho, both of Sao Miguel, and Jose L. Botelho, Dorvalino Botelho and Leonardo Botelho, all of New Bedford; 27 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
His funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. John the Baptist Church; burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.
Arrangements are by the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St.
Hazel J. Harding
NEW BEDFORD -- Hazel J. Harding, 86, died at home Thursday, Sept. 30, 1999, after a brief illness.
She was born in Acushnet, the daughter of the late Edgar I. and Lena M. (Smith) Harding, and lived in New Bedford since 1938.
She was employed for 34 years as a welder by Aerovox until she retired in 1978.
Ms. Harding enjoyed crossword puzzles, word search puzzles, and card games.
Survivors include two sisters, Edith C. Cornell of New Bedford and Irene F. Freitas of West Lebanon, Maine; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also the sister of the late Edward Harding, Clarence Harding, Gladys Santos, George Harding, Elizabeth Breau and Evelyn Costa.
At the request of the family there will be no services.
Arrangements are by the Kirby Funeral Home, 61 Tarkiln Hill Road.
George R. LaPlante
WAREHAM -- George Raymond LaPlante, 81, of Olney Road, Bourne, died Friday, Oct. 1, 1999. He was the widower of Anna Marie (Galligan) LaPlante.
He died at Tobey Hospital.
He was born and educated in Taunton.
He lived in Bourne and was a painting contractor in the Bourne area for many years, retiring in 1983. He was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church, Pocasset.
Mr. LaPlante served in the Army during World War II as master sergeant with the Army Corps of Engineers. He was a member of the Bourne Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Wareham Elks and the American Legion Post in Sandwich.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald G. and Catherine G. LaPlante of East Wareham; three sisters, Ella Ahonin of Sandwich and Cecile LaPlante and Jean Manard, both of Taunton; a brother, Patrick LaPlante; and three grandchildren.
His funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. John the Evangelist Church, Shore Road, Pocasset; burial will follow in Oakland Grove Cemetery in Bourne.
Arrangements are by the Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 40 MacArthur Blvd., Bourne.
Lillian Salvador, 96
NEW BEDFORD -- Lillian Salvador, 96, of Dartmouth, died Friday, Oct. 1, 1999, after a long illness. She was the widow of Augustine Salvador and daughter of the late Joseph and Maria (Correira) Brasells.
She died at Sacred Heart Home.
Born in Dartmouth, she was co-owner of Salvador Dairy and Ice Cream, Dartmouth, until she retired.
She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church, South Dartmouth.
Mrs. Salvador was a member of the Horseneck Holy Ghost Society, the Dartmouth Grange, the St. Mary's Ladies Guild, the Realtors Association and the Antique Society.
Survivors include a son, George A. Salvador of Dartmouth; two sisters, Rose Kuhns and Dorothy Bolender, both of San Diego; two brothers, George Brasells of Thousand Oaks, Calif., and Raymond Brasells of Dartmouth; and several nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Helen King, Mame Lopes, John Brasells, Joseph Brasells and Frank Brasells.
A Mass for her will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Church, South Dartmouth; burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.

Marie Y. Slight
ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. -- Marie Yvonne (Breault) Slight, 88, of New Bedford, Mass., died Friday, Oct. 1, 1999, after a long illness. She was the widower of Joseph E. Slight and daughter of the late Wilfred and Celina (Leger) Breault.
She died at Nash General Hospital.
A lifelong resident of New Bedford, she was a communicant of St. Theresa's Church.
She was a former member of St. Anne's Sodality, St. Theresa's Seniors and Our Lady of Fatima Seniors.
Mrs. Slight was an avid reader and enjoyed her music.
Survivors include three sons, the Rev. William E. Slight, M.S., of Attleboro, Mass., Robert P. Slight of Cape Cod, Mass., and Wilfred A. Slight of Rocky Mount; a sister, Alberta Gamache of Tampa, Fla.; three grandchildren; a great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
Her funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Theresa's Church; burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Arrangements are by the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford.
Eslie Allaire, 91
WAREHAM -- Eslie Mason (Robbins) Allaire, 91, of Onset, died at home Saturday, Oct. 2, 1999, after a long illness. She was the widow of James Allaire and daughter of the late Frank M. and Ruth E. (Dearth) Robbins.
Born in Brockton, Mrs. Allaire graduated from Wareham High School in 1925. After attending Hyannis Normal School, she eventually received her bachelor's and her master's degrees from Bridgewater State College.
Mrs. Allaire was an elementary school teacher in Seekonk, Rochester and Wareham. In Wareham she taught at the Pilgrim School and lastly at the Onset School, now known as the Ethel E. Hammond School. She retired in 1973.
Mrs. Allaire was founder of the local Rainbow and Brownies chapters. She also was past matron of the Order of the Eastern Star and past president of the Tobey Guild, the Church of the Good Shepherd Guild and the Wareham American Association of Retired Persons, from which she was awarded the National Volunteer Award in 1986.
Survivors include two daughters, Sheryl Facchetti of Onset and Ruth Ann Allaire of Fredericksburg, Va.; two sons, Christopher J. Allaire of Olympia, Wash., and Samuel N. Allaire of Leesburg, Va.; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Her funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Church of the Good Shepherd, High Street; interment will be in Agawam Cemetery.
