Ada H. Radu, 91
FAIRHAVEN -- Ada H. Radu, 91, of Sunrise Court, died Wednesday, Oct. 27, 1999, at Our Lady's Haven after a brief illness. She was the widow of Michael Radu.
Born in New Bedford, daughter of the late John W. and Jane (Winterbottom) Harrison, she lived in Fairhaven for 39 years.
Mrs. Radu was a homemaker and previously worked as a mill worker for several local textile mills in the area until she retired in 1965.
She was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, New Bedford.
She enjoyed crocheting, sewing and cooking. Up until her 80s, she went swimming every day, usually until late October.
Survivors include two daughters, Beverly A. Francoeur of Acushnet and Merilyn
L. Harwood of West Wareham; a sister, Ethel Seifert of Freetown; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and three nieces.
She was the sister of the late Bertha Hobson and Leigh Harrison.
Her funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the Fairlawn Mortuary of Sullivan-Waring, 180 Washington St.; burial will be private.
Leontine Menard, 97
FAIRHAVEN -- Leontine "Lee" (Michaud) Menard, 97, of New Bedford, formerly of Fall River and Dartmouth, died Friday, Oct. 29, 1999, at Our Lady's Haven. She was the widow of George E. Menard.
Born in Fall River, daughter of the late Philadelph and Emilia (Jean) Michaud, she was a communicant of St. George Church, Westport.
Mrs. Menard was a weaver in the area textile industry and was employed at the former Kerr Mill in Fall River for many years until retiring.
She enjoyed crocheting and knitting.
Survivors include a daughter, Armande Abaray of New Bedford; a son, George E. Menard of North Dartmouth; two sisters, Irene Rogers of North Dartmouth and Eva Garant of Fall River; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was the stepmother of the late Joseph R. Maynard and sister of the late Armand Michaud, Dolor Michaud, Herve Michaud, Oscar Michaud and Wilfred Michaud.
Her funeral will be at 8 a.m. Monday from the Donaghy Funeral Home, 465 County St., New Bedford, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 9 a.m. in St. George Church, Highland Avenue, Westport.

Americo Olival
BOSTON -- Americo "Mac" Olival, 74, of Onset, died unexpectedly Thursday, Oct. 28, 1999, at New England Medical Center. He was the husband of Nancy (Dupere) Olival.
Born in New Bedford, son of the late Antonio and Maria (Andrade) Olival, he owned and operated the Ger-Macs Restaurant.
Mr. Olival graduated from Stonehill College and moved to Wareham in 1973. He then turned the restaurant over to his son and started cooking for several nursing homes. He was head cook at Cape Cod Nursing Home in Bourne until retiring.
Survivors include his widow; two sons, John Olival of Oxford and Matthew Olival of Onset; a daughter, Suzanne Hallahan of Plymouth; two sisters, Margaret Branchard and Lucy Kwicien, both of New Bedford; two grandchildren, Heather and Lucas Hallahan; and a great-grandchild, Barry Leep.
He was the brother of the late John Olival.
A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Stott, Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Highway, Wareham. Interment will be at 11 a.m. at the Veterans Administration National Cemetery, Bourne.
Marion Sylvia
NEW BEDFORD -- Marion (Benevides) Sylvia, 82, of New Bedford, died unexpectedly Wednesday, Oct. 27, 1999, at St. Luke's Hospital. She was the widow of George Sylvia.
Born in East Falmouth, daughter of the late Manuel and Mary (Rapoza) Benevides, she lived in New Bedford most of her life.
She was a machine operator at U.S. Ring Binder of New Bedford for 20 years until retiring in 1978.
Survivors include four daughters, Norma Kohler of North Dartmouth, Barbara Stevens of Crofton, Md., Linda Sylvia of New Bedford and Joanne Sylvia of Fall River; a sister, Arlene Soares of East Falmouth; and three grandchildren.
She was the mother of the late George R. Sylvia and William L. Sylvia.
Her funeral service will be private.
Arrangements are by the Fairhaven Funeral Home, 117 Main St., Fairhaven.
Anastasia Semeter
WAREHAM -- Anastasia "Stasia" (Czymbor) Semeter, a longtime resident of both Wareham and West Bridgewater, died Thursday, Oct. 24, 1999, at Tobey Hospital after a brief illness. She was 83.
The wife of Leon T. Semeter for 64 years, Mrs. Semeter was born in Bridgewater and raised in West Bridgewater.
In 1972, she moved to Wareham, where she lived until her death.
Mrs. Semeter was a retired food-service worker in the kitchens at Cardinal Cushing General Hospital in Brockton and Tobey Hospital.
She enjoyed gardening and was an avid bingo player.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Semeter is survived by her son, Leon T. Semeter Jr. of Brockton; two daughters, Joanne M. Kelley of West Bridgewater and Catherine J. Olive of Seekonk; a sister, Mary A. Chambers of Wareham; two brothers, Julius M. Chambers of Wareham and John Chambers of Raleigh, N.C.; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
A funeral Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Ann's Church, West Bridgewater. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery in West Bridgewater.
Teresa E. Delaney
NEW BEDFORD -- Teresa E. (O'Brien) Delaney, 98, died at Hathaway Manor Extended Care Facility Friday, Oct. 29, 1999. She was the widow of Malcolm J. Delaney and the daughter of the late John and Hannah (Donovan) O'Brien.
A New Bedford native, she lived in New York for many years before returning to the city in 1972. She was employed as a school teacher in Mount Vernon, N.Y., for many years.
She was a graduate of Holy Family High School and Fitchburg State Teachers College.
She was a communicant of St. Lawrence Church.
Survivors include: a son, Malcolm J. Delaney Jr., of Somer, N.Y.; three grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Her funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Lawrence Church.
Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

John Rodrigues, 80
EAST HARTFORD, Conn. -- John Rodrigues, 80, of East Hartford and formerly of Wareham and Stoughton, Mass., died Wednesday, Oct. 27, at his home.
He was the husband of Mary I. (Vieira Cardoso) Rodrigues.
Born in Raynham, Mass., Mr. Rodrigues moved to Portugal at the age of 6, where he went to school. At the age of 21, he moved back to the United States.
He was the owner of the Knotty Pine Grill in Wareham for 18 years. Previous to that, he was employed by American Bilt Rite in Stoughton for 12 years and worked as a security guard at the Manchester Community College in Connecticut.
A member of the Portuguese Club in Newton and in Stoughton, he enjoyed traveling, fishing, and helping friends and neighbors.
Besides his widow, he is survived by two daughters, Angela Ronald Dunham Jr. of Lakeville, Mass., and Lucy Christopher Layer of Manchester; a brother, Manuel Rodriges of Stoughton; and four grandsons, Eric Dunham, Jason Dunham, Andrew Layer, and John Layer.
A funeral service will be held at 8:15 a.m. Tuesday at the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., Stoughton, and will be followed by a Mass at 9 a.m., at the Immaculate Conception Church. Burial will be at the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Stoughton.
Doris Openshaw
PINELLAS PARK, Fla. -- Doris Openshaw, 83, of Gulfport, died Friday, Oct. 15, 1999, at Hospice House Woodside. She was the daughter of the late Isabella (Jameson) and Edward Openshaw.
Born and raised in New Bedford, Mass., she lived in Wareham, Mass., during the summers and Gulfport during the winter until making her permanent home in Gulfport many years ago.
She was a graduate of New Bedford High School and St. Anne's School of Nursing, Fall River, Mass.
She was a private-duty registered nurse.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Harry Openshaw Sr., George Openshaw, John James Openshaw and Sarah Jane Heap.
A Mass will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, in St. Joseph Church, New Bedford.
Arrangements were by the On Call Crematory and Taylor Funeral Home, Pinellas Park.
Patricia A. Beard
WAREHAM -- Patricia A. (Malachowski) Beard, 60, of Wareham, died unexpectedly at home, Thursday, Oct. 28, 1999.
Born in Dedham, daughter of Anna and William Patterson of Dedham and the late Robert Malachowski, she lived in Canton before moving to Wareham in 1971.
She was a purchasing agent for A.C.E. International in Taunton.
Survivors include her mother; three sons, David Beard of Plymouth, Paul Beard of East Wareham and Russell Kirchdorfer of Monument Beach; two brothers, Mal Malachowski of Springfield, Mo., and William Patterson of Bloomdale, Ohio; four sisters, Sandra Rahwan of Sharon, Marilynn Buckley and Cynthia Bowers, both of Pepperell and Cheryl Garcin of Manchester, N.H.; four grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Patrick's Church. Interment will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery.
