'Nunsense A-Men' features all-male cast
The Little Theatre of Fall River will present Dan Goggin's "Nunsense A-Men" as a fall fundraiser for its annual scholarships. The production will open at 8 p.m. tomorrow, and be repeated at 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, Dec. 1 and 2, and at 2 p.m. Sunday and Dec. 2.
All performances will be at the Firebarn, Little Theatre's home, at Prospect Street and Highland Avenue in Fall River.
Based on the Outer Critics Award-winner for best off-Broadway musical, "Nunsense A-Men" is a nutty spoof on the rigors of convent life, but this time with a male twist. The story revolves around a select group of nuns who have miraculously escaped an accidental poisoning by the convent cook. Although 52 of their fellow nuns succumbed, the surviving sisters only had funds to bury 48. They're holding the remaining four nuns in the freezer, hoping to raise enough money for the burials before the health inspector catches up with them.
The remaining nuns are holding a benefit in an effort to bury their dear departed sisters: the gala event is "Nunsense A-Men."
With direction, choreography and musical direction by Robert Matthew Perry, "Nunsense A-Men" is the southeastern New England premiere of the male version of this popular show. The production stars Bill Whitehead Jr., Jeff Belanger, Ken Ettress, Richard Bento and David Faria.
Mr. Perry is thrilled to be working with his Little Theatre cast on "Nunsense A-Men."
"It's so updated," he said about the production. "There are a lot of new jokes and stage business happening at each rehearsal."
Mr. Perry still choreographs with Disney. His professional credits include an international tour of the musical "George M!" He has worked with such Hollywood and recording luminaries as Kathryn Grayson, Van Johnson, Carol Lawrence, Gladys Knight, the Pointer Sisters and Bea Arthur.
"Even if you've seen 'Nunsense' before," said Mr. Perry, "this production is a lot different. And people are going to have fun -- a lot of fun."
Single tickets are $12 for "Nunsense A-Men." Discounts are available for students, seniors and groups of 20 or more. For reservations and information, call the Little Theatre box office at (508) 675-1852.
