    FALL RIVER -- Mon Way "Harry" Wong, 101, of Center Street, Dighton, formerly of Fall River, died Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, at Charlton Memorial Hospital. He was the widower of Mai (Lum) Wong.
    Born in Canton, China, a son of the late Gott Wong and Kim (Chow) Wong, he immigrated to the United States in 1921, moving to Fall River in 1932 and residing there for 64 years before residing in Dighton for the past six years.
    Mr. Wong was educated in China.
    Survivors include a son, Tung Hok Wong and his family of Canton, China; a daughter, Mow Dun Wong and her family of Canton, China; a sister, Thew Ngan Quan of Boston; many grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
    His funeral service will be from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday at the Rose E. Sullivan & Waring Home, 866 County St., Somerset. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.

    MARION PINEAU


    MOUNT DORA, Fla. -- Marion (Borden) Pineau, 86, of Mount Dora and Westport Point, Mass., died Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, at home. She was the widow of Alfred E. Pineau.
    Born in Fall River, the daughter of the late Francis and Mable (Gifford) Borden, she lived in Westport Point most of her life; she resided in Florida since 1983. She graduated from BMC Durfee High School in 1934.
    Mrs. Pineau was postmaster of Westport Point until she retired.
    She was a member of the Westport Point United Methodist Church, Westport Historical Society, Fall River Historical Society, Order of the Eastern Star Seekonk Chapter 209 and the Mount Dora Lawn Bowling Club.
    Survivors include a daughter, Susan Pineau, and her husband, attorney John P. Long of Westport Point; and three stepgrandchildren, John Long, Perry Long and Patrick Long.
    Her graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Westport Point Cemetery; arrangements are by Potter Funeral Home, 81 Reed Road, Westport.

    ELSIE P. FERRANCE


    FALL RIVER -- ELSIE P. (LEITE) FERRANCE, OF STOCKTON STREET, DIED THURSDAY, NOV. 28, 2002, AT CHARLTON MEMORIAL HOSPITAL. SHE WAS THE WIFE OF ARTHUR M. FERRANCE SR.
    A lifelong resident of Fall River, she was the daughter of the late Manuel Leite and MaryAnn Bento Daniels Leite.
    An avid golfer, Mrs. Ferrance was a member of the Montaup Country Club in Portsmouth, R.I. She was an avid duckpin bowler and bowled at the Durfee Alleys in Fall River and the Durfee Lanes in Westport.
    Mrs. Ferrance was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her family.
    Survivors include her widower; a son, Arthur M. Ferrance Jr. of Tempe, Ariz.; two sisters, Gloria Pinault and Balbina Medeiros, both of Fall River; two brothers, Charles Leite and George Leite, both of Fall River; two grandsons, Lee and Scott Ferrance; a great-grandson, Kyle Ferrance; and many nieces and nephews.
    She was the sister of the late Mary Bibeau and Manuel, Joseph, Frederick, John and Anthony Leite.
    Her funeral will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday from the Maplewood Home of Harrington-Sullivan, O'Rourke, & Waring, 986 Plymouth Ave., followed by a funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. in Holy Trinity Church, 951 Stafford Road. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery.

    JAIME SOUSA



    FALL RIVER -- Jaime "Chumeca" Sousa, 56, of North Main Street, died Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, at home. He was the husband of Maria Conceicao (Cabral-Viveiros) Sousa.
    Born in Capelas, Sao Miguel, Azores, the son of Maria (Camara) Sousa of Fall River and the late Antonio Sousa, he was a resident of Fall River for 28 years.
    He was a communicant of St. Michael Church.
    Prior to retiring, he had worked as a construction laborer in Boston for 15 years.
    Mr. Sousa was a previous owner and member of the Acoreana Club.
    He was very involved in the Portuguese community where he was known for his singing career that followed him from Sao Miguel. He donated his time singing the Folia do Espirito Santo from house to house making people laugh and cry.
    Survivors include his widow; his mother; two sons, Rui Sousa of Fall River and Simon Sousa of Westport; three daughters, Ozzie Lascala of New Jersey and Ernestina Aguiar and Sophia Sousa, both of Fall River; a brother, Luis Sousa of Fall River; a sister, Ernestina Faria of Sao Miguel; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
    His funeral will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday from the Manuel Rogers & Sons Funeral Home, 1521 N. Main St., with a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Michael Church, Essex St. Interment will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery.

    LYDIA MARIE MININCLERI



    KINGSTON -- Lydia Marie Minincleri, 49, died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, at her home in Kingston after a short illness.
    Born in Medford, she was the daughter of the late Philip and Emily (Sica) Minincleri.
    She had lived in Kingston for 14 years, previously living in Pembroke, Plymouth and Dartmouth.
    Ms. Minincleri was a graduate of Dartmouth High School in Dartmouth and went on to further her education by obtaining her bachelor of music degree in 1974 from the University of Lowell, where she graduated cum laude. She earned her master of education degree from Bridgewater State College in 1995 and also attended Fitchburg State College and the University of Massachusetts while working on continuing education courses.
    She was employed by the Martinson Middle School (now the Furnace Brook Middle School) in Marshfield, where she worked as acting principal from 1991 to 1996 and was given the position of assistant principal from 1996 to 1999. She was promoted to the position of principal in 1999.
    Previously, from 1974 to 1991, Ms. Minincleri was employed as a music specialist at the Furnace Brook Middle School, where she specialized in bands, choruses and music appreciation classes for both middle school and collaborative children.
    Her ability to take on several responsibilities efficiently and her motivational skills in facilitating participative management were truly assets to her.
    Survivors include a son, Matthew P. Fritze of Kingston; three sisters, Elizabeth "Liz" St. Pierre of North Dartmouth, Gina M. Nolan of Mattapoisett and Kathy Walecka and her husband, Jeffrey, both of North Dartmouth; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
    Her funeral service will take place on Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. at the Christ Church Episcopal, 149 Court St., Plymouth. Cremation will take place at the Mayflower Crematory in Duxbury.
    Arrangements are by the Cartmell Funeral Home, 150 Court St., Plymouth.

    MANUEL R. MARTIN



    WESTPORT -- Manuel R. Martin, 75, of George Street died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002, at home. He was the husband of Alice (Bishop) Martin; they were married more than 50 years.
    Born in Bretanha, Sao Miguel, Azores, the son of Mary (Rodrigues) Martin of Fall River and the late Manuel Martin, he lived in Westport since 1972; he previously lived in Somerset.
    He was a foreman at Tilcon Construction in Acushnet for 34 years; he retired in 1989. He was a member of the Laborers Union Local 385.
    Mr. Martin was a member of Our Lady of Grace Church in Westport.
    Survivors include his widow; his mother; three sons, Steven L. Martin of Warwick, R.I., Kenneth Martin of Dartmouth and Jeffrey Martin of Fall River; a daughter, Sharon Martin of Plymouth; two brothers, Joseph Martin of Somerset and John Martin of Vernon, Conn.; four sisters, Mary Araujo, Victoria Camara and Linda Santos, all of Somerset, and Mary Ann Carvalho of Fall River; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
    He was the brother of the late Louis Martin, Phyliss Craveiro and Mary Viveiros.
    His funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Our Lady of Grace Church, Sanford Road. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Stafford Road, Fall River.

    MR. LAFERRIERE
    ALBERT E. LAFERRIERE



    NEW BEDFORD -- Albert E. Laferriere, 85, died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, at the Hathaway Manor after a two-year illness. He was the widower of Bertha (Cormier) Laferriere.
    Born in Acushnet, the son of the late Albert Laferriere and Rose deLima (Goudreau) Laferriere, he had been a resident of Acushnet until moving to New Bedford 60 years ago.
    Mr. Laferriere worked as a compounder in the rubber division of The Acushnet Co. for more than 35 years, retiring in 1972. He previously worked at the former Steel Foundry in New Bedford for approximately 10 years.
    He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church.
    He enjoyed the outdoors, including fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. Prior to his illness he enjoyed spending days at the Dartmouth Senior Center.
    Survivors include a daughter, Lucille Doyon of New Bedford; a son, Henry Laferriere and his wife, Maryjane, of Little Compton, R.I.; a sister, Flora McLain of Lakeview, N.C.; three brothers, Leonard Laferriere of Acushnet, Edward Laferriere of Billings, Mont. and Andrew Laferriere of Florida; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
    He was the brother of the late Alfred L., Gerard, Edmund, Arthur, Louis and Imelda Laferriere.
    His funeral will be at 8 a.m. Tuesday from the Brooklawn Funeral Home, 15 Irvington Court, followed by a funeral Mass at 9 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, 343 Tarkiln Hill Road. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery #2.

    OLIVIA COSTA



    NEW BEDFORD -- Olivia (Silva) Costa, 83, of New Bedford, died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, at St. Luke's Hospital after a long illness. She was the widow of Antonio F. Costa.
    Born in Fairhaven, the daughter of the late Joaquin and Leopoldina (Lomba) Silva, she lived in New Bedford for most of her life.
    She was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
    Mrs. Costa was employed as a floor lady at the Modern Venetian Blind Co. for many years. She later worked at St. Luke's Hospital. She was a member of the St. Luke's Women's Club.
    Survivors include four grandchildren, JayDeen Sylvia of Dorchester, Kelli Sylvia of New York, Carlos Andre Sylvia of New Bedford and Timmy Allen of Boston; two daughters-in-law, Patricia Sylvia of New York and Antoinette Lomba of New Bedford; five sisters, Louise Correia, Alice Andrews, Mary Silva, Lillian Barros and Rose Pereira, all of New Bedford; two brothers, Norman Silva and Edward Silva, both of New Bedford; three godchildren, Steve Barros, Lady Miranda and Beverly Gonsalves; and many nieces and nephews.
    She was the mother of the late Stanley Sylvia and sister of the late Joseph Silva, Henry Silva, John Silva, Arthur Silva, Daniel Silva, Joaquin Silva, Elsie Santos and Dorothy Silva.
    Her funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery.

    JAMES M. CAIN JR.



    OCALA, Fla. -- James Matthew Cain Jr., 75, of Marion, Mass., and The Villages, an educator in New England and New York for 37 years, died Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, of congestive heart failure at Munroe Regional Medical Center. He was the husband of Rita Gwendolyn (McGuinness) Cain. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on July 26.
    Born and raised in Belmont, Mass., he was the son of James M. Cain and Kathryn L. (Ryan) Cain.
    He served in the Navy Air Corps from 1945-49. He received a bachelor's degree in economics and a master's in education from Tufts University.
    His career in education began as a teacher in Connecticut, and continued in 1953 as a principal in Brewster, Mass., where he is still remembered by his students. He was a principal in Duxbury, Mass., for many years. In 1968, he moved to Manhasset, N.Y., to become the principal of Shelter Rock School, where he stayed for five years. He integrated the school under court order, something that he was remembered for in that community. He returned to Massachusetts in 1973 and spent the next 15 years as a principal in Needham, Mass.
    He loved Marion, and while he was working was a member of the Finance Committee. When he retired, he was elected to the Marion School Committee and was a member and chairman for six years.
    He was an avid sailor and a member of the Beverly Yacht Club in Marion.
    He was, above all, devoted to his family.
    Survivors include his widow; his children, James M. Cain III of Boston, Carol Cain Farrington of Marion and Naples, Richard Cain of Berlin, Mass., Kathryn Meighan of Weston, Conn., and Leslie Macina of Marion; a brother, Edward Cain of Massachusetts; and 10 grandchildren.
    His funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Rita's Church, Marion. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Marion.
    Arrangements are by the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Road, Route 6, Mattapoisett, Mass.

    ALVERINA CABRAL, 92



    DARTMOUTH -- Alverina "Alvy" Cabral, 92, of Bolton Street, New Bedford, died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, at Brandon Woods following a long illness. She was the widow of John C. Cabral.
    Born in Graciosa, Azores, the daughter of the late Manuel C. and Caroline (Clara) Coelho, she lived most of her life in New Bedford.
    Mrs. Cabral was a member of the Peoples Christian Church.
    She was employed by M&S Dress Shop as an inspector until her retirement in 1972. She was a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union.
    Survivors include two sisters, Virginia C. Oliver and Alice C. Mello, both of New Bedford; a sister-in-law, Margaret Cabral of New Bedford; several nieces and nephews including June Lemrise of Acushnet, Carolyn Pisiewski of Hudson, Thomas Mello of Norton and Richard Cabral of Dartmouth; and several great-nieces and great-nephews, Brina Lemrise and Koby Lemrise of Acushnet, Holly Mello and Courtney Mello of Norton and Karin Pisiewski of Hudson.
    Her funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Aubertine-Lopes Funeral Home, 129 Allen St., New Bedford. Interment will be in Rural Cemetery, New Bedford.

    ISABEL RIBEIRO


    NEW BEDFORD -- Isabel (Norte) Ribeiro, 85, of New Bedford, died Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, at Taber Street Nursing Center. She was the widow of Albert Ribeiro.
    Born in New Bedford, she was the daughter of the late Joaquim Norte and Isabel (Neves) Norte.
    She was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
    Mrs. Ribeiro was proprietor of Ribeiro Brothers Market.
    Survivors include a son, David A. and his wife, Dorothy Ribeiro, of New Bedford; three grandsons, David Ribeiro, Craig Ribeiro and Chad Ribeiro, all of New Bedford; and several cousins.
    She was sister of the late Alice Ribeiro.
    Her funeral Mass will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Burial will be in Rural Cemetery.
