ELLEN A. O'BRIEN-GOMPERTS
JAMAICA PLAIN -- Ellen A. (Duhig) O'Brien-Gomperts, 69, of Jamaica Plain, died Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, at Sherrill House Nursing Home. She was the widow of Joseph Gorman O'Brien and Henry Reed Gomperts.
Born in Boston, she was educated in the Brookline public school system and was a graduate of Holy Cross Academy in Chestnut Hill.
She was a homemaker who also worked as a teacher's aide in the Boston public school system and as a personnel manager at New England Telephone until she retired in 1987.
Survivors include two daughters, Jane E. Roderick and her fiance, Richard Rocha, of New Bedford and Kathleen A. Gomperts of Roslindale; and three sons, Michael W. Gomperts of Nahant, Thomas J. Gomperts (retired detective of BPD) of Jamaica Plain and Timothy J. Gomperts of Marshfield.
Survivors also include six stepchildren, Francis A. O'Brien of Minnesota, Joseph G. O'Brien Jr. of North Carolina, William H. O'Brien of Texas, Mary K. Jones of California, Michael W. O'Brien of Dorchester and Timothy P. O'Brien of Wisconsin; 23 grandchildren, including Jenevra Roderick of Attleboro, Miranda J. Roderick, Andrea M. Roderick and Jonathan M.G. Roderick, all of New Bedford; and two great-grandchildren.
She was the mother of the late Reed H. Gomperts and sister of the late Mary Harding, William Duhig and Katherine Kelleher.
Her funeral will be at 9:15 a.m. tomorrow from the Brady & Fallon Funeral Home, 10 Tower St., followed by a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Thomas Aquinas Church; interment will be in Holyhood Cemetery, Brookline.
GEORGE RIVARD
NEW BEDFORD -- George Rivard, 70, of New Bedford died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002, at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of Rose (Gelinas) Rivard.
A lifelong resident of New Bedford, he was the son of the late Alphonse and Bella (Strongy) Rivard.
He was a communicant of St. Joseph-St. Therese Church, where he was very active.
Mr. Rivard formerly worked at Coastal Ice Co.
Survivors include his widow; two sons, Wayne Rivard of New Bedford and Michael Sylvia of Acushnet; two daughters, Paulette Pimentel and Barbara Sylvia, both of New Bedford; three brothers, Edward Rivard of New Bedford, Raymond Rivard of Florida and Robert Rivard of Rochester; three sisters, Audrey Moniz of New Bedford, Patricia Ramos of Cleveland and Joan Frates of Fort Richey, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Alphonse "Spider" Rivard Jr.
He will be cremated and a memorial Mass will be celebrated at a later date.
Arrangements are by the Boulevard Funeral Home, 223 Ashley Blvd.
MICHAEL J. PIMENTEL ![]()
BOSTON -- Michael J. Pimentel, 24, of Blue Bird Lane, Westport, died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002, at Massachusetts General Hospital.
Born in Fall River, the son of John Pimentel and Gabriela (Estrella) Pimentel of Westport, he had lived in Westport for 10 years.
A 1996 graduate of BMC Durfee High School, he enjoyed and played youth sports. He played CYO basketball, baseball and Pop Warner football.
Survivors include his parents; a sister, Christine Borges of Fall River; his maternal grandparents, Manuel Estrella and Venilde (Rosa) Estrella of Fall River; his paternal grandmother, Louisa (Estrella) Almeida of Fall River; and a niece, Emily Borges of Fall River.
He was the grandson of the late Manuel P. Almeida.
His funeral will be at 9 a.m. tomorrow at the Manuel Rogers & Sons Funeral Home, 1521 N. Main St., Fall River, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Michael Church, Essex Street, Fall River, and burial in St. Patrick Cemetery, Fall River.
RONALD R. PERRY ![]()
NEW BEDFORD -- Ronald R. Perry, 63, of Dartmouth died unexpectedly Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002, at St. Luke's Hospital.
He was the son of the late Manuel Rose Perry Jr. and the late Isolina L. (Silva) Perry.
Born in Dartmouth, Mr. Perry was a truck driver for McCabe Sand & Gravel. He was a member of the Teamsters Union Local 59.
He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church, Dartmouth.
Survivors include a daughter, Sheilarey Hemenway of Dartmouth; a grandson, Bryan Hemenway of Dartmouth; a brother, Richard Perry of Dartmouth; and a niece and a nephew.
He will be cremated.

NORMAN L. BARLOW ![]()
FALL RIVER -- Norman L. "Peachy" Barlow, 75, of William Street died Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002, at St. Anne's Hospital. He was the husband of Theresa (Medeiros) Williams of Fall River.
A lifelong resident of Fall River, he was the son of the late William and Gladys (Pierce) Barlow.
Mr. Barlow worked at Plymouth Print Co. until he retired. He previously was employed by Sweeney Movers and Clithero Movers.
He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his widow; two daughters, Gail DeSouza and Dawn Barlow, both of Fall River; five sons, Gregory Barlow and Kevin Barlow, both of California, and Norman L. Barlow Jr., David Barlow and Michael Barlow, all of Fall River; two stepsons, Joseph Williams of Dartmouth and Mark Williams of Fall River; a brother, William Barlow of Florida; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and five stepgrandchildren.
He was the father of the late Colleen Chasse, and the brother of the late Lynwood Barlow and Kenneth Barlow.
His funeral will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Manuel Rogers & Sons Funeral Home, 1521 N. Main St., with a Mass at 10 at Immaculate Conception Church, Thomas Street. Cremation will follow.
NICOLE C. ANDERSON ![]()
BOSTON -- Nicole C. Anderson, 25, of Wareham, formerly of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Marion and Leominster, died Thursday, Dec. 5, 2002, at Brigham & Women's Hospital. She was the daughter of Odette (Maillet) Smith of Wareham and Gary Anderson Sr. of Athol.
Born in Leominster, she attended public schools in Leominster and was a 1996 graduate of Old Rochester Regional High School. She was enrolled at Cape Cod Community College, studying criminology.
In addition to photography and skiing, Miss Anderson loved the ocean, snorkeling and marine life.
She was employed as a teller by the Cape Cod Bank and Trust Co. at the Mashpee Commons branch.
Survivors include her parents; a stepfather, William "Bill" Smith of Wareham; a stepmother, Nancy (Primeau) Anderson of Athol; a brother, Gary Anderson Jr. of Athol; a sister, Tarrah Anderson of Athol; her grandparents and stepgrandparents, Lawrence and Catherine (DesRoches) Maillet of Canada, Robert and Shirley (Guay) Anderson of North Leominster, Jean P. (Patterson) Smith of Concord, and Theresa Primeau of Orange; and many aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends.
She was the granddaughter of the late William V. Smith and Ralph Pimeau.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Church in the Pines, 17 Carver Road, West Wareham; interment will be private.

ALBERTINE F. COX, 94
LOWELL -- Albertine F. "Fran" (Vigeant) Cox, 94, of Chelmsford, a native of New Bedford, died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002, in Lowell. She was the widow of Ralph B. Cox.
Born in New Bedford on July 11, 1908, she was the daughter of the late Medrick and Marie Helene (Juillet) Vigeant.
She lived in North Quincy before moving to Chelmsford in 1988.
She was employed by Continental Screw Co. of New Bedford for 22 years until she retired.
Mrs. Cox was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Chelmsford.
Survivors include a son, William B. Cox and his wife, Catherine, of Chelmsford; a daughter, Geraldine Randall and her husband, Ted, of Stewart, Fla.; four sisters, Beatrice Lajoie of South Dartmouth, Leah Silva of New Bedford and Helen Moyer and Ida McKnight of Wareham; four brothers, Medrick Vigeant, Roland Vigeant and Albert Vigeant, all of New Bedford, and Raymond Vigeant of Boynton Beach, Fla.; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

KEVIN M. O'MEARA
NEW BEDFORD -- Kevin M. O'Meara, 45, of New Bedford, died unexpectedly at home Thursday, Dec. 5, 2002. He was the son of John E. and Jacqueline M. (Jacques) O'Meara of Pinellas Park, Fla.
Born in Passaic, N.J., he was a lifelong resident of New Bedford.
Mr. O'Meara was employed as a truck driver by Sid Wainer & Son Specialty Produce until leaving due to disability this year.
Mr. O'Meara enjoyed spending time with his family, woodworking and fishing.
Survivors include his parents; a son, Kevin M. O'Meara Jr. of New Bedford; three daughters, Kelly O'Meara, Jessica O'Meara and Misty O'Meara, all of New Bedford; a brother, Thomas E. O'Meara of Westport; two sisters, Patricia M. Macedo of Fall River and Cheryl A. O'Meara of New Bedford; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass will be at 6:30 p.m. tomorrow at St. James Church; arrangements are by the Kirby Funeral Home, 61 Tarkiln Hill Road.
EVELYN E. DAHLBERG, 90
NEW BEDFORD -- Evelyn E. (Hubbard) Dahlberg, 90, of Acushnet died Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002, at St. Luke's Hospital after a long illness. She was the widow of Floyd J.E. Dahlberg.
Born in New Bedford, a daughter of the late Sarah E. (Oliver) Hubbard, she had lived in Acushnet since 1950.
She was a descendant of Col. Claghorn.
Mrs. Dahlberg was honored by The Standard-Times as an outstanding foster parent with New Bedford Child & Family Services from 1952-1976; she helped raise 55 children.
Survivors include a daughter, Evelyn E. Grimes of Acushnet; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Acushnet Cemetery, Acushnet; arrangements are by the Kirby Funeral Home, 61 Tarkiln Hill Road.
CAROL ANN SIMPSON
FALL RIVER -- Carol Ann Simpson, 55, of Hicks Street, Fall River, died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002, at St. Anne's Hospital after a brief illness. She was the daughter of the late James E. and Hazel M. (Jason) Simpson.
A lifelong resident of Fall River, she was a 1966 graduate of BMC Durfee High School.
Miss Simpson was employed as a data processor by Globe Assembly Co. and Aetna Life Insurance for many years.
She was a member of the St. John's-St. Stephen's Episcopal Church and a member of its choir and senior citizens group. She also did pastoral calling.
She was an avid and gifted crocheter.
Survivors include aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.
Her Requiem Eucharist will be at 7 p.m. tomorrow in the St. John's-St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 711 Middle St., with burial at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Oak Grove Cemetery.

MARGARET E. DWELLY, 92
NEW BEDFORD -- Margaret E. (Armstrong) Dwelly, 92, of Fairhaven, died Thursday, Dec. 5, 2002, after a brief illness. She was the widow of Clifton E. Dwelly.
Born in Plymouth, the daughter of the late William and Mary Belle (MacKay) Armstrong, she lived in Fairhaven most of her life.
Mrs. Dwelly was a registered nurse at St. Luke's Hospital until she retired in 1976. She also was employed by Fairhaven Community Nurses and was the proprietor of MacLean Nursing Home, Fairhaven.
She was a graduate of Plymouth High School and St. Luke's School of Nursing, class of 1933.
She was a member of the Agawam chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and enjoyed summer vacations on Prince Edward Island.
Survivors include a son, Donald A. Dwelly and his wife, Nancy, of Fairhaven; two grandchildren, Benjamin and Jessica Dwelly of Fairhaven; and several cousins.
Her funeral services will be private.
Arrangements are by the Potter Funeral Home, 81 Reed Road, Westport.

STANISLAW SOKOLOWSKI
BOSTON -- Stanislaw Sokolowski, 75, of Tiverton, R.I., a native of Fall River, died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002, at Massachusetts General Hospital. He was the widower of Nada (Lancier) Sokolowski.
He was the son of the late Frank and Helen (Tworkowski) Sokolowski.
He was a member of the U.S. Navy for 20 years, serving during World War II and the Korean War.
He later worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Tiverton for 25 years as a letter carrier.
He was a lifetime member of the Woodrow L. Silvia Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5392 in Tiverton.
Survivors include a sister, Stella Erdmann of Fall River, and a nephew.
He was the brother of the late Jane Barbosa and Irene Sokolowski.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. tomorrow in the Boyko Memorial Funeral Home, 709 Broadway (Route 138), Fall River, with burial in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Fall River.
